The following events are based on a true story.
In the early 2000s, Rosario (my younger sister) and I lived in the countryside, a place where cable TV didn’t reach and entertainment depended more on imagination than technology. But we had a clear mission: convince our parents that we absolutely needed a Family console. We insisted so much that, against all odds (and probably against the family budget), the console finally made its way into our hands.
In my family, there was an unspoken rule: when someone stopped using something, it was passed down to the next. Thanks to that, we inherited from our cousins the legendary Duck Hunt and the unforgettable Zapper. To us, it was the future. To our parents… a potential electrical hazard.
We were assigned an old television, which we strategically placed in the hallway connecting our bedrooms. That hallway became our hideout. That’s where it all began: the fierce competition, the shouting, the adrenaline of aiming at those pixelated ducks that seemed to mock our aim.
Until one day, in the middle of a full gaming frenzy, while trying to land the perfect shot, the television had a small dramatic collapse… and shut off forever. We had burned it out. Literally.
Far from being a tragedy, that moment became one of the most vivid and joyful memories of my childhood.
The poster I created recreates that exact scene: the Zapper mid-shot, the console and controllers taking center stage, and the exhausted television in the background, a victim of our unstoppable adrenaline.
Little sister, if you’re reading this, this poster is dedicated to you.
